Meta Tags Proposed
-
- IndexCell
Communications recently proposed the introduction
of 'wireless meta tags' to the W@P Forum. Wireless meta tags
similar to those currently utilised within HTML web pages.
-
- Three
NEW meta tags have been proposed, these are 'noindex',
'description' and 'keyword'. These new wireless meta tags
will be read by the IndexCell wireless search service
http://indexcell.com and will enable developers of WML
wireless information services to promote their service more
strategically.
-
- 'Meta
tags' work when placed in the 'header' of WML decks.
Once installed they can be read by a visiting wireless search
engine. The information contained within the meta tag is read
by the search engine's crawler and stored in a wireless data
base.
-
- The information
in this instance would firstly tell the
visiting crawler that the wireless network required indexing
by a search engine, then a description meta tag describing
the wireless service along with a few, well chosen 'keywords'
that would make it easier for users of wireless enabled
devices to find that particular wireless information network.
-
- The implementation
of wireless meta tags is set to greatly
improve the end users interaction with wireless services, for
the first time wireless search engines will be far more
accurate and up to date in the results presented on wireless
devices.
-
- The three
meta tags proposed by IndexCell are in the
following format:
- <meta
name="robots" content="noindex"/>
<meta name="description" content=" "/>
<meta name="keywords" content=" "/>
-

information for developers on wireless meta tags can
